The Vrbo Fiesta Bowl is back at State Farm Stadium this season, and it's a big one: a College Football Playoff quarterfinal on Wednesday, December 30, 2026, at 5:30 pm. That means two fan bases flying into Phoenix on short notice, a stadium of more than 60,000 people, and a kickoff that lands right in the middle of a weeknight rush hour on Loop 101. Here's everything you need to plan the day, including the part most fans figure out too late: how you're actually getting to Glendale and back.
When Is the Fiesta Bowl in 2026?
The 2026 Fiesta Bowl kicks off Wednesday, December 30, 2026, at 5:30 pm (Arizona time). It's one of the four College Football Playoff quarterfinals, so the matchup isn't set months ahead like a traditional bowl. The 12-team playoff field is announced December 6, and the first-round games are played December 18–19. Once the bracket fills in, you'll know who's coming to Glendale, and you'll have about two weeks to book flights, hotels and a ride.
Tickets are sold through the Fiesta Bowl's official site. Prices change with the matchup, so expect them to move the moment the teams are known.
Where Is the Fiesta Bowl Played?
The Fiesta Bowl is played at State Farm Stadium, 1 Cardinals Drive, Glendale, AZ 85305, the home of the Arizona Cardinals. The stadium sits right off Loop 101 in the West Valley, between Cardinals Way and Glendale Avenue, next to the Westgate Entertainment District's restaurants and bars.
If you're staying elsewhere in the Valley, plan on roughly 25–35 minutes from Sky Harbor or downtown Phoenix and 35–50 minutes from Scottsdale, without game traffic. On game day, give yourself much more. Local guidance for years has been to budget at least two hours of travel time for the Fiesta Bowl.
The stadium has a retractable roof, and in December it's usually closed for the game. At the January 2026 Fiesta Bowl, organizers kept the roof closed despite rain in the forecast, so the weather mostly matters for tailgating, not the game itself.
Fiesta Bowl Parking
State Farm Stadium's lots are color-coded:
| Lot | Who it's for | How to get in |
|---|---|---|
| Blue | General parking | Loop 101 to Glendale Avenue or Cardinals Way, or surface streets like 91st and 99th Avenues |
| Red | Preferred parking | Only through the entrance at Maryland Avenue and 95th Avenue |
| Black | Day-of parking without a pre-sold permit, plus rideshare drop-off and pickup | South of the stadium |
A few things to know before you go:
- Buy parking ahead. The stadium recommends buying parking in advance through SeatGeek. Without a pass, you'll park farther out, and parking where you're not supposed to can get you ticketed.
- It's cashless. State Farm Stadium only takes credit cards in its parking areas.
- Expect road closures. For the January 2026 Fiesta Bowl, Maryland Avenue was closed between 95th and 91st Avenues, and police asked fans to "plan ahead and plan to get here early."
- Lots fill early. Last season, fans were lined up at the lots by late morning for an evening kickoff, and some waited about an hour to get in.
- Don't trust your map app blindly. Navigation apps don't always know about game-day closures. Follow the posted routes and traffic officers.
For a lot-by-lot breakdown, see our State Farm Stadium parking guide.
Rideshare and Drop-Off
Uber, Lyft and friends-and-family drop-off and pickup all use the Black Lot, south of the stadium. Getting dropped off is usually easy. Getting picked up is the hard part: 60,000 people leave at once, phone service slows down, and prices climb right when everyone opens the app. Expect to wait.
With a 5:30 pm Wednesday kickoff, the drive in also overlaps with the evening commute. If you're coming from Scottsdale or the East Valley, that's two rush hours stacked on top of each other: the regular one and the game one.
Fiesta Bowl Bag Policy
State Farm Stadium enforces a clear bag policy. You can bring:
- One clear bag (plastic, vinyl or PVC) no bigger than 12" x 12" x 6", or a one-gallon clear freezer bag
- Plus one small clutch or wallet no bigger than 4.5" x 6.5" x 2"
At last season's game, umbrellas also had to be shorter than 12 inches. Leave everything else in the car, or better yet, with your driver.
The Fiesta Bowl Parade
The Fiesta Bowl Parade, presented this year by Phoenix Children's Hospital, is set for Saturday, January 2, 2027, at 10 am, down Central Avenue in Phoenix. It's about a mile and a half of marching bands, floats and giant balloons, and it's free to watch along the route. Expect road closures across central Phoenix that morning, so if you're heading to the parade from a resort or Sky Harbor, plan your drop-off a few blocks off Central.
Getting to the Fiesta Bowl Without the Parking Lot
Here's the honest math. A group of eight in three rideshares pays surge pricing twice, gets split up after the game, and waits in the Black Lot with everyone else. A group that drives pays for parking, fights the closures, and still needs a designated driver for a night game.
Or you skip all of it. Our special event transportation picks your group up at your hotel, resort or home, drops you at the stadium, and stages nearby so you're riding out while everyone else is still looking for their car. We run Fiesta Bowl and Cardinals trips across the West Valley and Glendale all season:
- Executive Sprinter for up to 14 fans, with room for a cooler and tailgate gear
- Mini party bus for 20–40 people who want the party to start before kickoff
- Full-size motor coach for up to 56, for alumni groups, booster clubs and corporate outings
- Black SUVs for smaller groups and anyone flying into Sky Harbor the day of the game
Where to Stay for the Fiesta Bowl
The closest hotels are in and around Westgate, within walking distance of the stadium, and they fill fast once the matchup is announced. Many fans stay in Scottsdale or downtown Phoenix instead and make a trip out of it. That works well as long as you're not the one driving the 35–50 minutes back after the game. Our State Farm Stadium guide covers the hotel options in more detail.
